Planning for litters takes lots of time and work. We carefully raise and train all of our breeding dogs so we know them by heart. We know their personality strengths and weaknesses, we know their physical strengths and weaknesses and we know their genetics. From this vast pool of information we make our best informed guess at which pairs will produce the best puppies. Then we wait...
From time of mating we switch our girls back to puppy food and start them on a prenatal vitamin and folic acid supplement. This ensures that our puppies will develop healthy and strong and have the highest learning ability they can.
Birth day is exciting and tiring and a lot of work for mama and everyone else! Once all the puppies are born and doing well with breathing and eating etc, we keep a close eye on mama and babies but try not to interfere unless necessary, so even though those adorable babies are so cute and we want to just snuggle them all the time, we resist the temptation and let mama take care of them.
Starting on Day 3 we begin Early Neuro stimulation and twice a day or more weights, but other than those exercises and move to change their bed, we let them be with mama.
We are doing Early Neurostimulation with all of our puppies as the difference it makes is astounding!
We are using BAB protocol which includes ENS and extensive desensitization and socialization to empower our puppies and produce calm, secure puppies that are not fearful. For more information on BAB please visit badassbreeder.com
After Day 16 its all busy from there! We hold and snuggle our puppies and follow the Badass Breeder protocol which guides our puppy socialization. Puppies will be introduced in a safe way to the world they will encounter later. We want them to be ready for anything! We take videos of our puppies at least weekly and post them on our blog, on Facebook and on Instagram so that people waiting for their puppies can have something to see while they wait.
Starting at 5 weeks old we allow people to pick their puppies because before then we don't know very much about the puppies temperament.
Temperament testing
We do temperament testing right before our puppies go home because we want to make sure we are able to help get our new puppy owners off to a great start and be able to help guide them in their training of their new puppy. We have found Temperament testing to be less a crystal ball and more of a pretest to see where new owners should start their training.
